the Sistermom spirit in the author. Few experiences impact a woman like
the birth of a child, as it awakens the maternal chi within. For African-American
mothers, particularly, a newborn soul represents the triumph of our ancestors,
and the overwhelming responsibility that we bear in nurturing and cultivating
a child in a society that has historically presented special challenges
to our community. The task is daunting, yet its prospects - exhilarating.
The journey of motherhood brings forth a melodic range of emotions as
