She will collect stories about strong families and communities – stories about courage, history, traditions, and generations. Futuristic Youth, a local community group, will assist with interviewing and Brand Nu Video, a local video production company, has volunteered to videotape participants’ stories. Come on out and share your story. The Black Family Reunion is the perfect time for us to document what an amazing, resilient people we are. Combining languages of art and life, and as affected by the DADA influence, 20 artists will directly or indirectly, comment on a range of issues that relate to aspects of the global human condition including militarism, economics, environmentalism, and personal, philosophical and political conflicts. The exhibition reflecting the clash between the rational and the emotional will feature performance and new media works and will be accompanied by a panel.

Join Washington, DC based author & poet Charisse Carney-Nunes and 2006 Cherry Blossom Festival Art Competition Winner & illustrator, Ann Williams, in celebrating the release of Nappy (ISBN: 978-0-9748142-1-6 Brand Nu Words 2006), a humorous and delightfully illustrated children's hardback based on the poem of the same title with a book release party to include a special tribute to Civil Rights icon, Rosa Parks, who died last week. Parks is one of ten African-American women featured in the book. The celebration, which will be held at the historic Thurgood Marshall Center for Service, 1816 12th Street, NW, Washington, DC, will include free and fun activities for children, including storytelling, moon bouncing, and face painting.
